In 1995 Silicon Power developed and commissioned the first medium sub-cycle Static Transfer Switch, STS. Medium and low voltage STS have become the standard commercial products of this company. Silicon Power STS is UL tested and certified.

Next Generation Transfer Switch
Silicon Power is developing the next generation Ultra-Fast Transfer Switch, capable of transfers in 100 micro-seconds. The Ultra-Fast Transfer Switch is also capable of transfers independent of phase angle and can transfer all three phases at once. The Ultra-Fast Transfer Switch builds on Silicon Power's experience with Medium Voltage and Low Voltage Transfer switches.
Solid State Fault Current Limiter
Silicon Power is developing a Fault Current Limiter for use in Utility Transmission and Distribution applications. The Solid State Current Limiter monitors the main bus and dynamically inserts additional impedance into the line in the event of a fault. The use of new device technology, such as Silicon Power's SGTO devices, in power system distribution and generation has opened up new unprecedented horizons in power system. The applications of this new technology include but are not limited to fast fault current limiting, ride through fault, and virtual substations. Silicon Power leveraging its device technology for SSFCL (Solid State Current Limiter) and UBS (Urban Bus Switch) applications. The high current rating and fast switching in these technologies are based on Silicon Power's thin structure solid state SGTO switches.
Intelligent Universal Transformer
Silicon Power is developing the Intelligent Universal Transformer for use in Utility distribution applications. The IUT will deliver enhanced power factor correction and harmonic content control and will function as a criticall enabler of Smart-Grid technology. The IUT offers the possibility of integrating renewable energy resources and energy storage systems to the grid and can support future PHEV connections.
Custom Power Systems
Since spinning off from GE in 1994, Silicon Power has been active in the inherited technologies such as HVDC, Static Var Compensation and FACTS systems. The custom Power Systems developed included but not limited to pulsed power, crowbar switch, by pass, HV circuit breaker, and sub-cycle voltage regulator. Silicon power, a vertically integrated firm, merges the switching device information and state of art system studies to deliver the most valued system to surpass the end user specification.
Power Conversion Systems
Silicon Power has developed various power conversion systems ad/ac, ac/ac and dc/dc at different voltage and current level. The innovation has been the main drive. Our experience in design and development of custom power conversion system includes advanced DSP, high frequency modulation and application of novel switching devices. Silicon Power has spearheaded in the research and development of new switching device SGTO (Super Gate Turn Off thyristor) with superb switching and thermal characteristics.
